MINISTER GASIC SPEAKS ABOUT OPERATION STORM: He lights candle in Mrkonjic Grad and sends strong message

On the anniversary of the start of Croatia's military-police Operation Storm, during which more than 250,000 ethnic Serbs were expelled while several thousand were killed or remain listed as missing, Serbian Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic posted on his official Instagram account.

Gasic stressed that this was a pogrom that left deep wounds on the Serb nation, but also represents a permanent reminder that the suffering must never be forgotten.

"We remember all the innocent victims and people from the columns (of refugees) who were forced to leave their homes and everything they loved," wrote Gasic.

The minister added that on the occasion of this sad day, he visited the Church of St. Sava in Mrkonjic Grad, where he lit a candle for all those who died.

"In the Church of St. Sava in Mrkonjic Grad, I lit a candle for all the victims, with deep respect for their sacrifice and the pain that remains. That silence and prayer remind us how important it is to preserve the memory, but also to persevere in advocating for peace and justice," he stated.

At the end of his message, Gasic underlined the importance of collective memory and preserving peace for future generations:

"It is our duty to never forget such tragedies, but even more so - to do everything so that they never happen again."
