Protesting students march in Belgrade and Novi Sad to mark 22 months since railway station disaster

Last night, commemorative marches were held in Belgrade and Novi Sad, organized by protesting ("blockading") students and their so-called councils, on the occasion of 22 months since the fall of the canopy at the railway station in Novi Sad, which killed 16 people.

In Belgrade, a group of citizens gathered in Sava Square, where a representative of the students gave a speech in which she repeated the request to establish the truth about the collapse of the canopy, to investigate those responsible and for institutions to do their job.

Those gathered then went for a walk along Kneza Milosa Street to the Belgrade Center Railway Station, where a 16-minute silence was held.

The police secured the gathering and the streets along which they were moving were closed to traffic.

In Novi Sad, a commemorative walk was held at the invitation of the so-called councils, starting at the NIS building and leading to the railway station.

Earlier in the day, at 11:52, groups of protesting students and citizens who support them paid their respects to the victims of the Novi Sad railway disaster in Novi Sad and in the city of Nis.

13 persons have been charged with committing a serious crime against public safety in the railways station collapse case.
