Prime Minister Djuro Macut comments on upcoming elections in Serbia

Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut said on Wednesday that in the coming days, there will be accurate information about the date of parliamentary elections in Serbia.

"I will talk to the president about it, but that may be less important. I think it's much more important that we prepare the society for that and that we have done a lot to somehow stabilize it," Macut told K1 TV, when asked to comment on reports that if elections are not called tomorrow, we will have to wait until September 10.

Speaking about the recent session of the National Assembly of Serbia, where a no confidence vote in the Government was on the agenda, he assessed that, especially on the third day, it turned into a political performance.

According to the prime minister, during the first two days of that session, there was room for a relatively normal discussion and for presenting the facts, although 90 percent of the topics did not relate to the agenda, "but to a million other things for which this Government is absolutely not responsible, (that happened) over the past 25 years."

"On the third day, we arrived at that political performance when there was 40 minutes of continuous accusations against me personally for everything under the sun, that I could possibly be accused of, Including direct, almost insults. I think that is absolutely not a good story," said Macut.

He added that being addressed in such a way was unpleasant, but that he tries to distance himself from political conflicts and observe them from the point of view of solving problems.

Macut added that during the parliamentary debate, he did not hear enough concrete proposals from the opposition on what their possible future government would do, but instead mostly references to the past, the present, and the previous governments.

"In my opinion, this is not good at all, because it doesn't lead to any kind of calming things down or any attempt to achieve anything. I personally have not heard anything from the opposition's plan regarding the upcoming elections, whether there is any platform for, say, the work of a future government, except for a series of various references and reflections on the past, the present, the previous governments, and so on. Just a collection of accusations or some kind of, let's say, thoughts," said Prime Minister Macut.
