President Vucic speaks about early elections in Serbia

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that he will soon announce the date for early parliamentary elections in Serbia.

In a video address published on Instagram, Vucic stated that the political scene is such that those who said they are only interested in justice, have shown that they are interested in political office, and that they want that more than anything, at any price.

"And that, after all, is legal and legitimate. It's not really ethical. We have accepted all of it. We will meet their demands soon and announce elections, which will be held early," said Vucic.

He reminded that two years ago a terrible tragedy happened in Novi Sad - the railway station canopy collapsed and killed 16 people, including children - and pointed out that this tragedy affected and changed each one of us.

"I tried, as the president, not only to show piety towards the victims, but also that every person could see how much emotion and how much it affected everyone in Serbia, myself included of course. In every place, I not only paid tribute to those people, but said, clearly and unequivocally, that responsibility must be estabished. That, if there are culprits, they must be held accountable and punished," said Vucic.

He added that no one is happy with the speed of the proceedings, nor the solutions, nor the decisions made by prosecutors, but that the decision will not be made by him as the president, nor by those (protesters) in the streets, but by our institutions.

"In the meantime, some people thought that they could get their justice through violence. Justice is never violence and violence is never justice," Vucic said.
