Police still deployed around government building in Pristina after Hague court sentences former KLA leaders

After yesterday's protest staged by supporters of the so-called KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army"), during which windows on the government building of the provisional institutions in Pristina were broken with stones, a large number of members of the so-called Kosovo police were still deployed around that building this morning.

Photos published by local media in Pristina show that the police are equipped for breaking up demonstrations.

KLA sympathizers gathered yesterday as the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, located in The Hague, announced the guilty verdicts for four former KLA leaders.

Albanians protested in front of the EULEX headquarters as well.

Pyrotechnic devices were also thrown at the EULEX headquarters last night, causing part of the roof to catch fire.

The so-called Kosovo police announced that they detained two people during the protest on Wednesday in Pristina, one of whom will be held for up to 48 hours.

Former KLA leaders Hashim Thaci and Jakup Krasniqi were each sentenced to 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli received 18, and Rexhep Selimi 13 years in prison. They stood trial on charges of for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
