So-called Kosovo has a new president
The Assembly of the provisional institutions in Pristina has elected Justina Shiroka Pula, president of the Academy of Sciences and Arts in Pristina, as the president of these institutions.
She was a candidate proposed by the Self-Determination party, and 81 deputies voted in favor of electing her, reports Koha.
The voting began a few minutes before midnight, which was the deadline to elect a president of the provisional institutions or head to another snap parliamentary election in Kosovo and Metohija. The voting ended a few minutes after midnight on Wednesday.
The Assembly previously adopted in the second reading the Draft Amendments to the Law on Kosovo Specialist Chambers, which was a condition imposed by the Democratic Party of Kosovo for the vote on the president to take place.
The session was held after that party's leader Bedri Hamza stated that he accepts the proposal of Prime Minister of the Provisional Institutions Albin Kurti for Justina Shiroka Pula to be a candidate.
The session was attended by deputies from all ethnic Albanian parties.
