Nine Serbs from Zubin Potok remain in custody, court in Pristina rejects defense appeals
The Court of Appeal in Pristina has rejected the appeals filed by the lawyers for the nine Serbs arrested in the area of Zubin Potok on suspicion of allegedly committed war crimes against civilian population, and confirmed their detention for up to a month, which was previously ordered by the Basic Court of the Provisional Institutions.
The lawyer of one of those arrested, Jelena Krivokapic, stated that the defense requested through appeals that the suspects be released from prison, and as an alternative, proposed house arrest and bail to ensure their presence in court.
She stated that the court delivered its decisions in the Albanian language.
"When we receive a decision in Serbian, we will know how it is explained," Krivokapic said.
On September 27 the so-called Kosovo police arrested nine Serbs allegedly suspected of committed war crimes in the area of the Zubin Potok municipality, and two days later they were remanded for one month.
Since the end of July, four other Serbs have been arrested in the area of Zubin Potok on suspicion of allegedly committing war crimes, and the Court of the Provisonal Institutions in Pristina ordered detention for up to 30 days.
The so-called Kosovo police raided and searched several villages in the municipality of Zubin Potok. The residents in those villages stated that they were exposed to open intimidation and threats of more arrests.
