THE LOVE OF TWO MEN: The marriage between Serbian and Croatian, this is their story!

Smiling wedding guests , two ministers and godfathers all gathered on that 5th of September last year in  Zagreb City hall. Some people from the Croatian government attended too. It was about time, for it is not every day that we see same-sex marriage taking place in Croatia, especially the one between Serbian and Croatian

Ivan (29) fell in love in his twelve year older partner three years ago. They have been chatting for a long time and he finally took some time off work to go and meet him.

- The first time I went to visit Zagreb was in 2012 and it is here that I first met my partner. It was all terrific so I returned there for my vacation. Then we agreed to start living together - said Ivan.

And so it was, one evening in the last year's September, these two men entered holy matrimony. One of them, young Serbian, was exhiliarated. He has found his soul mate and managed to create a lifelong partnership.

Croatian minister of Administration attended the ceremony and one lady from the Ministry of Justice too, but there was no sign of Ivan's family. None of them. They have never accepted his homosexuality, even asked to hide it.

The procedure itself was exactly the same as the one for marriage. The same goes for happiness.

- The feeling is tremendous! I was sceptical over the years because all this was so fragile. But then this referendum on gay marriages happened. There might have been some moments when we were afraid that we wouldn't outlast this long-term relationship but everything turned out to be great. We are the first couple that entered this holy matrimony in Croatia. A Serbian married a Croatian - said Ivan merrily.
