WHY IS DJOKOVIC RIGHT? These are the reasons why the attacks against him are pointless and hypocritical

Incomplete reporting from the media conference resulted in Serbian tennis player being crucified, despite him not mentioning that men players should get more money than women

To be completely honest, what Raymond Moore said at the end of the tournament is far away from any political correctness.

He stated that women tennis is "going with" men, and that he, if he were a female tennis player, thank God every night for players like Federer and Nadal because they are the ones who are main players, and all this because of the fact that the prize money is practically equaled between men and women (Grand Slams, IW, and Miami).

When asked about the comment, Djokovic said his opinion, but you cannot find traces of sexism like Moore had, and he had to eventually resign.

For example, Novak's comment that women tennis players should get more money if more people came to their matches was completely put aside.

Everyone who was following the Serbian player is aware that he respects women - Jelena Gencic was the one who helped to create his stand point and career.

Not once did he mention that men should get more money, and his conclusion that men and women are physically different was taken out of context and blown out of proportions.

BBC tennis commentator Russel Fuller said that many tennis players share his opinion ad he added:

- He (Novak) suggests that prize money on combined tournaments should be distributed according to the number of tickets sold and TV coverage. This could lead that in the future women get more money, but also to destroy the principle that men and women are equal, despite the number of sets played.

Not counting Grand slams, around 395 million spectators (TV and digital) followed VTA tournaments and 973 million ATP tournaments.

9.2 million people watched Wimbledon finals in 2015 (Djokovic - Federer), and 4.3 million watched women finals (Williams - Muguruza).

3.3 million people watched 2015 US Open finals (Djokovic - Federer), and 1.6 million (Peneta - Vinci) even though the tickets were sold faster than for the male finals.

One of the reasons was that it was expected that Serena will play in the finals and complete Grand slams for that year.

- But, if they had known that Peneta and Vinci would play in the finals, he tickets wouldn't have been sold that fast - said George Belso, journalist for British "Metro" in the text with the title

"Novak Djokovic is right! Male tennis players deserve more money than women".

However, in the last 2 years, women finals (Williams - Vozniacki, Williams - Azarenka) had more people watching than men finals (Nishikori - Cilic, Djokovic - Nadal).

These finals were played in NYC, and the best women tennis player is from the USA.

- Stars like Williams will make more money than an average tennis player because they will have more people watching the match. The prize should go to those who "sell" the product in the best way and they have respect - said the journalist.

Djokovic made USD 21 million last year, and Williams 10.5. No. 10 on both lists, Tsonga and Vinci both made 2.2 million USD.

When commenting about the fact that men tennis players spend more time playing than women, we have the data:

On Grand slams, Djokovic made 6.5 million GBP, and WIlliams 5.46 million.

Djokovic spent 4.003 minutes playing, and Williams 2.413 minutes, which means that the Serb made 1.623 GBP per minute, and Serena 2.262.

Belso explained it this way:

- Let us make something clear - one sex spends more time working than the other. If you are to work the same job for the same money, you could say that it is fair. However, if you do the same job and you get the same money like the other guy who worked only half-time, you would be angry. This is exactly what is going on at the Grand slams. Is this really fair, or is it biased towards female players? This political correctness is brought to madness, because it suggests that two types of players do the same job. But they do not. This is the same like when a man runs a marathon, and a woman runs a half-marathon, but you claim they did the same. It makes no sense.

This debate can go on forever.

- You cannot change anything there - said Roger Federer once, but no one attacked him for that.

- ATP and WTA are more than sport, this is functional business. Key rule is that the business should have the highest level of investments where the most money flows. Observing tennis as business, it is obvious that men players should get more money than female players. This is not because women tennis is weaker, because Serena Williams did not win 21 Grand slam by pure luck. This is how the world goes around, and Djokovic is right for pointing that out - concluded Addam Adicott.
