Minister tours Corridor 10, says road cracks on new highway should not have happened

Analyses will be carried out going forward

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic says that analyses will be carried out, together with international financial institutions, into the implementation of the construction of the entire Corridor 10.

She also pointed out that road cracks that appeared on the highway in the Grdelica Gorge should not have happened.

"I know every meter of this highway, I know each of the contractors and what they did to finish this big project. And I'm not ready to accuse anyone or announce an investigation against anyone until experts complete their report into how this happened. All the cracks have already been repaired at the contractor's expense," said Mihajlovic.

She said that after the construction has been completed, a serious analysis would be done, because there had been many problems in the construction process, which itself took too long.

"That analysis and information should serve for some other state bodies as well" said Mihajlovic, according to a statement from her ministry.

She added that there were many problems during the construction of Corridor 10, starting with the previous governments failing to complete designs and expropriation in time, which resulted in claims for damages.

"Today, things are no longer done that way and every project we launch is fully prepared, both in terms of technical documentation and expropriation," said Mihajlovic.
