Minimum monthly wage in Serbia increased to 30,022 dinars

The Serbian government has decided to raise the minimum wage from 153 to 172 dinars per hour, starting next year.

At today's SES (Serbia's Association of Economists) meeting, the decision was made that the minimum wage would be higher by 11.1 percent, an increase of 3,000 dinars.

This means that the minimum wage per hour will go from 155.3 to 172.5 dinars.

As Telegraf.rs reported yesterday, the government has decided to be closer to trade union demands than those made by employers, and to raise the minimum wage by at least about 10 percent.

Today, the state was choosing between trade unions who originally demanded 24.5 percent (or 16 percent that they would agree to) and the "modest" six percent offerd by employers.

However, this means that trade unions and employers have failed to agree on a "minimum" amount for next year, so the Serbian government suggested that the minimum wage be increase by 11.1 percent in 2020.

It is estimated that around 350,000 workers in Serbia currently earn the minimum wage of 27,300 dinars.
