Trump's special envoy begins his mission in the Balkans: Today in Pristina, tomorrow in Belgrade

Grenell's mission begins in a new political environment in Kosovo and Metohija - says President of the Serbian National Assembly's Committee on Kosovo and Metohija Milovan Drecun

US Presidential Special Envoy for the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina Richard Grenell begins his mission just six days after his appointment. According to some media outlets, referring to the cabinet of Kosovo's president, Grenell will speak with Hashim Thaci in Kosovo and Metohija.

Two diplomats have confirmed to Tanjug that the US envoy will speak with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic tomorrow.

President of the Assembly Committee on Kosovo and Metohija Milovan Drecun recalls that US President Donald Trump has entrusted the mission to Richard Grenell directly, which speaks to his gravity as an envoy.

Drecun points out that Grenell's mission begins in a new political environment in Kosovo and Metohija.

"Hashim Thaci remained as president, his term continues, but his party has been defeated and goes into the opposition," Drecun points out.

Although new parties will form a government, there is no indication at this time that they will abolish taxes (on Serbian goods) - a condition that Belgrade has set for continued dialogue with Pristina.

"We have a man who wants to be prime minister, but puts additional barriers on the continuation of the talks, instead of removing the key obstacle that stalls the whole conversation," Drecun recalled, referring to Albin Kurti.

He expects that Grenell will try to advance the process and create the conditions for the continuation of EU-facilitated dialogue - but that the dynamic will be dictated by the US.
