The police in Sibenik have released details concerning a quadruple murder that happened on Saturday and shocked Croatia and the region.

This is a case in which the owner of a bankrupt company killed a married couple, two other men, and then himself, 24sata.hr reports.

"I'll give you the chronology of the whole case. At 12:56 we received a report that a dead man had been found in a Mercedes in Vodice. We found him with gunshot wounds. The ambulance crew informed us about three more dead people on the South Highway. They were found with gunshot wounds. A warrant was issued for the perpetrator," said the head of the Sibenik-Knin Police Administration, Ivica Kostanic.

"During the investigation, at 18:22, we received a report that a vehicle was seen in the area of Vodice. The body of the suspect was found in that vehicle," he added.

"We determined that he used a 7.62 caliber weapon, the Chinese version of the AK-47. He killed three people near Sibenik and then drove towards Vodice in a car that belonged to a 60-year-old victim. He parked in front of the store of a 47-year-old. When he came out, he fired bullets at him from the same weapon. Then he drove the Skoda out of Vodice and got out of the vehicle two kilometers away and killed himself using the same weapon. In addition to that weapon, we determined that he had a pistol, a rifle and 302 pieces of ammunition," the police chief concluded and added that the motive for the murders was of a business nature.

He added that the AK-47 was in the killer's possession illegally.

"The killer was a hunter, but he held this weapon illegally. It was seized from him due to a misdemeanor, namely domestic violence committed in 2009," Kostanic said.

"He divorced his wife, against whom he committed the offense. Later, the weapon was given back to him in 2014, but on September 10, 2018, it was confiscated again because he committed the crime of making threats," the chief added.

"That report for the threat has nothing to do with this event, it had to do with relations with his neighbors," he added.

47-year-old Sibenik entrepreneur Tedi Slamic was killed in Vodice on Saturday. 42-year-old entrepreneur Toni Sparada, as well as 62-year-old bankruptcy trustee Radojka Danek and her 63-year-old husband were killed in Sibenik.

The suspect, 57-year-old Branko Koloper was the owner of the bakery chain Delo, and was found dead next to a car near Vodice later that night.
