Since the beginning of the year, customs officers discovered almost 400 migrants, ready to be exposed to various risks to life and health in order to reach some of the developed European countries. It is noticeable that lately, except inside truck cargo, they are increasingly hiding in tool boxes. An example occurred on May 25, 2021 at the Bogojevo crossing, when customs officers and police found them in a truck trailer that suddenly began to visibly "sway," the Customs Administration announced.

It all happened when a truck with Novi Sad license plates arrived at the exit checkpoint, transporting 25 tons of wheat flour in bulk from Sombor to Slovenia.

Since the customs markings were undamaged and the documentation in order, there was no reason for a detailed inspection of the truck.

However, during a routine check of the trailer with a specialized mirror, customs officer noticed that the tarpaulin on the roof of the truck was damaged, which caused suspicion that there were stowaways in the cargo, in addition to the flour.

When the trailer suddenly started rocking there was no longer any doubt about it. Five young men without any documents were "buried" in the flour.

It often happens that illegals "wander" into internal outposts, as has happened to six young men who last week, instead of getting to an EU country, ended up at the Uzice office while hiding in a load of PVC granules from Greece.

Customs officers at the Presevo crossing have discovered about 70 migrants since the beginning of the year, and say they have witnessed all sorts of situations as they found the migrants in trucks that mostly came from North Macedonia or Greece.

However, even the most experienced among them were amazed when a few days ago they found as many as eight people in a truck's "tool box," packed like sardines in that narrow and cramped space.

The truck that migrants tried to use to cross the border illegally was transporting potatoes from Greece to Belgrade.
