Donald Trump has a message for Serbia
Co-chair of the Serbian caucus in the US House of Representatives Claudia Tenney said today in Belgrade, after Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic presented her with the Order of the Serbian Flag, 1st Class, that US President Donald Trump told her in a telephone conversation to convey his greetings to Serbia, and that he hopes to visit here.
Tenney stated that last night, while she was sitting in a restaurant, her phone rang and it was President Trump.
"He was talking to me about something else and asked me, so where are you? I said that I am in Serbia and now I am quoting what he said to me: 'I really like Serbia, convey my greetings and say that I hope to visit some time, hopefully now when the new ambassador arrives'," Tenney said.
The US lawmaker added that she is glad to have returned to Serbia after almost 40 years and that she sees numerous changes for the better.
"Thank you to everyone in Serbia, President Vucic, for the big changes we are noticing compared to 40 years ago, starting from the airport to wonderful buildings and everything that didn't exist before," said Tenney.
She added that she first came to Belgrade in 1981 as a student, and that she once worked at the Yugoslav consulate in New York.
"I worked for the former Yugoslavia consulate in New York, for the sports newsroom, I followed the Olympic Games in Sarajevo. I am connected to all the peoples in the former Yugoslavia. A part of my job at the consulate was to take care of all everyone who came from Yugoslavia for reasons related to sports," said Tenney.
