Deputy PM and Internal Minister Ivica Dacic today urged the participants in the Basic Training of the 17th Class of Firefighter and Rescue Unit to selflessly protect the safety of citizens as they assume their new roles.

He stated that since the beginning of the year, members of the Emergency Situations Sector (SVS) had 13,069 interventions and saved 505 lives, for which Serbia, which appreciates their dedication and sacrifice, is grateful.

Dacic added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) will continue to invest in strengthening the capacities of the protection and rescue system.

"Honor and responsibility are interwoven into the service you are entering. It is up to you to follow in the footsteps of your senior colleagues, who risk their lives every day to save others. They are the first, and sometimes the only ones, to arrive when there's a fire, flood, earthquake or any other natural disaster. When it is necessary to pull someone out of a crushed vehicle, from a ravine, or when someone is lost on inaccessible terrain," Dacic said during the promotion ceremony of 93 new firefighters-rescuers who underwent 17 weeks of intensive training under the mentorship of experts from the SVS and the National Training Center.

By joining the SVS, he pointed out, the officers receive not only a uniform and tasks to perform, but also the trust of every citizen of our country.

"With your actions, you preserve the trust that your colleagues have built over the years. That's why today, while wearing this uniform, you are wearing a symbol of trust, hope and safety," the minister stressed and announced that soon, another competition will be launched for 300 new candidates to join this MUP department.
