A serious traffic accident happened this morning, in Novo Selo near the town of Velika Plana in central Serbia, when a passenger train hit a courier service van at a level crossing.

According to initial information, the collision occurred when the van, for unknown reasons, tried to cross the tracks just before the train arrived. The impact was strong, and the front part of the vehicle, where the engine is located, was completely crushed.

Although the aftermath looks dramatic, fortunately no one was injured during this accident. The driver of the van escaped without serious injuries, as established by a medical team that examined him at the scene.

The police and the Railways inspectorate conducted an investigation. Traffic on that section was temporarily suspended while the train was being pulled from the collision site and the van was removed from the tracks.

The exact cause of the accident will be determined after the investigation, but it is assumed that the driver's negligence and possible failures in securing the crossing could have been the contributing factors.
