Aleksandar Vulin on Wednesday responded to a statement made by EU's Ursula von der Leyen by saying that the EU "will allow Turkey to join sooner than Serbia would betray Russia".

"I expect the European Union to fully align with Serbia's policy, including withdrawal(s) of recognition of so-called Kosovo, as well as an immediate withdrawal of all decisions that violate the Dayton Agreement and reduce the powers of the Serb Republic," Vulin said in a statement, prompted by Von der Leyen saying the EU expects a greater degree of alignment of Serbia's foreign policy with the EU, "including sanctions against Russia."

"Mrs. Von der Leyen, no one asked us if we wanted to embark on the adventure of joining the EU, but I guarantee you that we will find a way to ask Serbia what it thinks about the continuation of that adventure," Vulin stated, and concluded:

"And lest I forget - you will accept Turkey into the European Union, sooner than Serbia will betray Russia."
