President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic spoke today in Samarkand with his Slovak counterpart, Peter Pellegrini, about further strengthening of the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, with a special emphasis on cooperation in the field of energy.

"A friendly and meaningful conversation with President Pellegrini in Samarkand. In addition to topics such as new technologies, education and cultural heritage, we also exchanged opinions regarding further strengthening of the overall bilateral relations between Serbia and Slovakia, with a special emphasis on cooperation in the field of energy, economic development and joint contribution to the stability and prosperity of the region," Vucic stated in a post on the Instagram account "buducnostsrbijeav".

He added that during the meeting, held before the start of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand, they also discussed the position of the Slovak ethnic minority in Serbia and the contribution its members make to relations between the two countries.

"I am especially grateful to Slovakia for its principled and continuous support for our territorial integrity and the European path. I stressed the importance of mutual trust and cooperation in facing contemporary challenges, both in the region and at the global level, as well as the need to contribute to better life of citizens of both countries through joint initiatives," said Vucic.

He noted that Serbia and Slovakia are friendly countries linked by sincere understanding and a common vision of peace, progress and stability in Europe.

"I am convinced that today's conversation will further strengthen that partnership and open up new opportunities for future projects of mutual interest. I used this opportunity to invite President Pellegrini to visit Serbia, which he accepted," added Vucic.

Later in the day, the president of Serbia will attend the opening session of the UNESCO General Conference.

Serbian Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic is in the delegation led by President Vucic.

Earlier, Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, his deputy Ochilbay Ramatov, and Samarkand region governor Adiz Boboyev welcomed Vucic at the airport in Samarkand.
