National Assembly President Ana Brnabic accuses former Serbian President Boris Tadic of inciting civil war
President of the Serbian National Assembly Ana Brnabic has commented on a statement made by former Serbian President Boris Tadic urging citizens to "to take to the streets in order to overthrow the government" by saying this was "too much, even coming for a man who told HRT (Croatian state broadcaster) that he is not really proud to have been a Serbian president."
"This misery of a man who, to our great sadness and even greater disgrace, used to be the president of the Republic of Serbia, is calling for civil war. He is ecstatically urging people to go out into the streets and attack their neighbors, friends, family members, acquaintances," Brnabic stated in a post on X.
She added that Tadic is not calling for dialogue or for the calming tensions, but instead for violence.
"Even for a man who told HRT that he is not really proud of having been a Serbian president - this is too much," Brnabic wrote.
Tadic previously made a post on X stating that it was "tactically important that all those who cannot come to Belgrade organize protests in their cities throughout Serbia" and that this will "weaken the power of the regime to oppose the forceful protests in support of Dijana Hrka in Belgrade".
On Sunday night, tensions arose close to the Serbian National Assembly when a group of citizens who had gathered, citing support for Dijana Hrka, who is on hunger strike, targeted and insulted the police and citizens opposed to protests and blockades who are also gathered near the plateau.
Strong police forces were deployed between the group of citizens who came to support Hrka, whose son died last November when the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapsed, and the students and citizens opposed to the year-long anti-government protests and blockades.
