President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has assessed as "fantastic and historic" the news that Serbia has moved from 57th to 39th place in terms of readiness for the use of AI, and warned that Serbia will need much more electricity as it continues to develop technologically.

"Meaning, we are among the top 20 percent countries in the world in terms of preparedness for AI. This is something that will give us a huge advantage over many countries in the neighborhood, going forward," Vucic said during his annual news conference held at the House of eGovernment in Belgrade.

The president noted that he himself does not understand the use of artificial intelligence very well - but that he is familiar with the fact that Serbia will need much more electricity than is the case right now.

"We will have to supply electricity because our data center in Kragujevac is expanding. A second data center will come to Kragujevac, a super computer will come to Kragujevac because we have infrastructure there. The next city will be Nis, which is preparing for this kind of infrastructure. It brings a lot to a city. Aside from the fact we are going into the technical details, that the hot water returns to Kragujevac, and so on," Vucic said.

He noted that in addition to the technological development of the country, the construction of data centers also means more jobs, as well as the progress of the entire Sumadija region, and southern Serbia.

"And the backup of all those super computers and everything is always in Belgrade. So we are always covered in every possible way," Vucic pointed out, but also warned that it literally "eats electricity".

He added that even more electricity will be needed when the network of charging stations for electric cars is built.

As for science and technology parks, Vucic stressed that the one in Nis performs the best, and that there is also effort to improve the others.

"We are working on further expansion of Nis and Cacak and we will open a new science and technology park in Krusevac. We are doing great things for our country with this. We are modernizing it technologically and perfecting and improving it in every sense," concluded Vucic.
