Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said today that the decision to be a candidate for prime minister should be his, and that people who want changes that guarantee stability and security, rather than chaos and changes imposed by the "blockaders" (anti-government protesters) should decide in elections.

Vucic asked his party (SNS) colleagues not to discuss about whether he will be a candidate for prime minister in the upcoming elections and not to speculate about it.

"It's neither the time nor the place. First, it has to be my decision, whether I feel capable enough and whether I want that, then it has to be the people's decision, and the people want changes, they just don't want the kind of changes being imposed on them by the blockaders, the people want changes that guarantee stability and security, not chaos," Vucic said today at the Presidency of Serbia, answering a journalist's question about whether he will be a candidate for prime minister.

Vucic added that it is very difficult not to want to replace someone who has been in power for 14 years and that he does not mean this is true only of his political opponents, but also of those who support him.

"All I can do is say how many mistakes I've made and how many things I missed doing, every day I regret at some points relaxing and maybe not working as hard as I should have done in order to achieve even better results," said Vucic.

He assessed that the next election will be won by the one who convinces people that they are able to bring stability and change at the same time.

"As for (running for) prime minister, I ask everyone not to talk about it. It's simple, I don't want to say no at this time, because I always leave room for some possibility," said Vucic.

The president also said that there are "a thousand objections" against him, but that certain results have been achieved that are taken for granted today, "which people no longer appreciate because they are used to them."

He pointed out that for the first time in its history, Serbia has a stable exchange rate of the national currency, the dinar, while a former central bank (NBS) governor, Dejan Soskic, who is mentioned as a name that will be on the "student-blockader" election list, destroyed the dinar and reduced its value by 50 percent.

Vucic added that today the rate of public debt-GDP ratio is the lowest in modern history.

"Even though I know many people still don't live easy and affluent lives - unlike those who criticize most frequently - we fight for those people with all our might, today the average salary in Serbia is over 1,000 euros for the first time in our history. Our pensions are the highest in our history, although I know that we still owe more to the pensioners and that we have to work for them," said Vucic.

He also stressed that he still has a lot of energy.

"I wouldn't want to do a job if I didn't have the energy, enthusiasm and strength that I've shown until now. Because you can find a million things to say against me, a million mistakes. What none of you, hate me as much as you like, what you can't tell me that I have not worked hard, you can't say that I wasn't diligent, you can't say that I didn't work harder than the average person," said Vucic.
