Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has received a congratulatory message from US President Donald Trump on the occasion of Serbian Statehood Day.

The US President pointed out that the US is committed to further strengthening its strong friendship with Serbia, and that the two countries are working together to increase trade and investment and improve economic prosperity of citizens.

Trump also recalled that Serbia was the first foreign country in US history whose flag was displayed in a place of honor above the White House, the Serbian president's press service announced on Friday.

"On behalf of the people of the United States, I send my most sincere congratulations to you and the people of Serbia on the occasion of Statehood Day, which you celebrate on February 15. During almost the entire 250 years of freedom of the United States, Serbia has been our good friend. Serbia was, in fact, the first foreign country whose flag was displayed in a place of honor above the White House. The US is committed to further strengthening our strong friendship as we work together to increase trade and investment and improve economic prosperity of our citizens," the US President's message read.

Numerous world officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, have congratulated President Vucic on Serbian Statehood Day (Sretenje), February 15.

Since the national holiday this year falls on a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be non-working days in our country.
