SPEEDING CLAIMS THREE LIVES! Victims trapped in overturned car drowned in only 1.5 meters of water in Novi Sad

A terrible tragedy that happened early yesterday morning in the Novi Sad settlement of Klisa, when three young people lost their lives, is most likely the result of speeding, Telegraf.rs has learned.

The accident happened at around 06:45 hours in Majke Jugovica Street, when a Golf with Zrenjanin license plates, driven by Robert F. (32) from Novi Becej, ended up on its roof, in a canal.

According to initial results from the investigation and traces recorded at the scene, it is suspected that the driver lost control of the vehicle in a sharp curve due to driving at an excessive speed. The car went off the road and flipped onto its roof, directly into the water.

The canal, which is about six meters wide, is only about 1.5 meters deep in this spot. It is assumed that the impact and the fall into the water left the passengers with no chance to survive.

Apart from the driver, passengers Kristina M. (34) from Belgrade and N.P. (27) from Novi Sad also died in the crushed vehicle. Upon arrival, the emergency medical team could only pronounce all three victims dead.

Drama during investigation

The operation to pull the vehicle out of the canal was extremely difficult and dramatic. Due to the inaccessible area and the position in which the car ended up, the rescuers had to use a tractor to first turn the Golf over, and then pull ig out of the water.

During the investigation, a new shock awaited the emergency personnel - a woman's bag was found in the muddy water of the canal. This caused fears that there had been a fourth person in the car, so the divers were urgently deployed to thoroughly search the bottom of the canal. Fortunately, it was determined that there were no additional victims.

The bodies were transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Novi Sad for autopsies, which will show whether the deaths occurred as a result of injuries sustained during the crash, or if the victims drowned.

The wreckage of the car will also undergo technical inspection.
