PM Macut warns Serbians about electricity consumption amid heatwave

Serian Prime Minister Djuro Macut has appealed on Serbians not to waste electricity in the coming days, bearing in mind the prolonged heatwave and increased electricty consumption that comes with it. The appeal was made in order to help keep Serbia's energy system stable.

Macut pointed out that the situation in the energy sector is currently serious and demanding, primarily due to the extremely low water level on the Danube and high temperatures, the Government of Serbia announced.

Macut added that the state and competent institutions are taking all necessary measures to preserve the stability of the electric power system and ensure proper supply to citizens and the industry.

"We are monitoring the situation on an hourly basis," said the prime minister.

He appealed on all citizens to, during the coming days, reduce the use of air conditioners and other appliances that consume a lot of electricity, especially in periods of peak consumption, because every single contribution can be important for overcoming this challenging period with as few consequences as possible.

The prime minister announced that an emergency meeting of the Republic Headquarters for Emergency Situations will be held on Monday morning, when all aspects of the current situation will be discussed and necessary measures taken to preserve Serbia's energy stability.

Macut stated that in such circumstances, what is most important that everyone remains calm, acts in a responsible manner and in solidarity with fellow citizens, and added that after the meeting, the public will be informed about the conclusions and measures that will be taken in order to preserve the stability of the energy system and the safe supply of electricity.
