Heatwave and temperature shocks: Only 9 degrees in one part of Serbia, 27 in another this morning

At 07:00 hours this morning Belgrade was the warmest place in Serbia, where the temperature had already reached 27 degrees Celsius, while at the same time, Sjenica reported only 9 degrees, according to the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute (RHMZ) website.

It was 24 degrees in Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica and Palic, and 23 degrees in Kikinda and Banatski Karlovac.

RHMZ has issued a warning about a long lasting heatwave in the territory of Serbia, where maximum temperatures will range between 35 to 38 degrees, in some places reaching 40 degrees.

According to current forecasts, the heatwave will be most pronounced from August 5 to 8, when the daily highs will hover around 40 degrees in most places.

From August 8 to 13, the heat will let up, with local weather instabilities and daily temperatures between 30 to 35 degrees, and then the they are expected to rise again as the heatwave resumes.

Nights when temperatures never drop below 20 degrees (known as "tropical nights" in Serbia) are forecast in the northern province of Vojvodina and in Belgrade.

Backa, Banat and Pomoravlje districts have a red weather warning issued for them, while other parts of Serbia are under an orange alert.

Unfavorable biometeorological situation will negatively affect chronically ill and sensitive persons, so they are advised to be careful, follow their doctor's advice, reduce physical activity and apply adequate protection against UV radiation.

Concerning meteoropathic reactions, sleep disturbances and reduction of working capacity are possible.

Participants in traffic are advised to increase their focus.
