Radoslav Raletic, a man who will be remembered as the last living witness of the mass shooting in Sumarice in Kragujevac carried out on October 21, 1941 by German occupiers of Serbia, has passed away at the age of 103.

This is a great historical and human loss for Kragujevac, because Raletic's life story was an invaluable testimony of one of the most difficult and darkest days in the history of this city and the entire Sumadija.

17-year-old witness to tragedy

Radoslav Raletic was born on May 24, 1924. As a youth of barely 17, he managed to avoid death and survive the firing squads on that fateful October 21, 1941.

Thus, he became a direct witness to the suffering of innocent people, and his testimony preserved the memory of the victims for decades, reminding future generations that such a tragedy should never be forgotten.

Life's journey from Kragujevac to Sarajevo and back

Although he survived the most difficult day in the history of his hometown, his life's journey took him beyond Sumadija. Radoslav lived in Sarajevo for many years, but he decided to spend the last years of his long life in Kragujevac - a city whose pain he carried inside for more than eight decades.

The funeral of Radoslav Raletic will be held tomorrow in Donje Grbice.

His departure closes an important chapter of living memory, but society's obligation to cherish the memory of the Sumarice victims remains.
