It's been exactly one year since the death of one of the greatest players and goalkeepers, not only from the former Yugoslavia, but also of Europe. Legendary Vladimir Beara left this world on this day, and was buried in the Split cemetery of Lovrinac a day later, in a place far from the tomb he raised to life by himself.

The famous goalkeeper, first for Hajduk then Red Star had a desire to be buried in the place where his ancestors were, Zelovo near Sinj, where in the churchyard of St. Elias, he raised a grave for himself and his wife. CROATS WERE DESTROYING SERBS, BURNING THEIR HOUSES, CHURCHES AND CEMETERIES: Here’s why Serbs WILL NEVER FORGET forget the crimes committed during Operation Storm! (VIDEO)

- Ten years ago, Vladimir erected a monument and tomb, because he wanted to be buried next to his father Jakov and his mother Marija and other ancestors. Otherwise, he would not have raised the grave, but last year when he passed away and when it was decided where to bury him, no one contacted us. His desire was brutally run over, but it is on the honor and reputation of those who did so - told for "Novosti" the Orthodox priests who said that had they objected the decision, they would have been accused of nationalism.

The two say that Beara's wife Jadranka knew of the joint grave and that they do not understand why she allowed him to be buried in Lovrinac.

- We feel horrible about the decision, because Vlado was quite orthodox and in the nineties when it was most difficult, he was in touch with us and visited shrines and gave monetary contributions. He was very attached to the monastery of Dragovic, and a frequent visitor until he suffered a stroke in 2011 - said the two priests.

They visited him last in 2013 and on that occasion gave him a diptych-icon of the Virgin Mary and St. Petka, which he really liked, and despite the fact that his wish was not granted, they repeatedly had mentions over the past year in the church in Zelovo.
