An extraordinary session of the Kosovo Assembly, which will discuss its dissolution, will be held on August 22, it has been decided today unanimously by the heads of parliamentary groups.

The decision to convene the session was made after Ramush Haradinaj resigned as prime minister in order to be questioned at The Hague-based Specialist Prosecution, Lajmi is reporting.

The decision has been confirmed for the newspaper from Pristina by all heads of parliamentary groups following a session of the Assembly's presidency, convened by Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli, who is known as "the master of Kosovo."

The session will begin on August 22 at 10 a.m.

Veseli called on Hashim Thaci, the president of the provisional Pristina institutions, to set an election date immediately.

Veseli said this after the meeting of the parliament's presidency, adding that consensus has been reached on some decisions which are, in his words, in the interest of the citizens.

"The dissolution of the Assembly allows the president to automatically determine the date of the election. I said with full conviction and I still claim that elections are the only solution for the citizens. Elections are not just an option or an alternative, but the right decision for the citizens. With this decision, we have shown dignity," said Veseli, at the same time congratulating the citizens, Pristina-based Koha writes on Monday.

Since the date of the parliamentary session that will discuss the parliament's has been determined, elections should be held within 30-45 days of August 22, Veseli told reporters, adding, however, that setting the date is a responsibility of the Kosovo president.

The head of the LDK parliamentary group, Avdullah Hoti, said after the meeting of the Assembly presidency that all heads of parliamentary groups had agreed on a date for the dissolution of the Assembly, respecting all constitutional rules.

He also said that it was agreed that before the dissolution of the Assembly, (the EU) would approve an IPA agreement that would bring 100 million euros to Kosovo.

The head of the AAK parliamentary group, Ahmet Isufi, said that the decision gives the mandate back to the people, while Memkli Krasniqi from the PDK said that the process of going to early elections was made institutional today.

Social Democrat Initiative MP Bilal Sherifi said that the heads of parliamentary groups had not decided on an earlier date because of the concerns and recommendations of the European Union about needing more time to put together an observer mission that would oversee the election.
