More countries to revoke recognition of so-called Kosovo by end of year, Dacic: Tactically important

Dacic says that the Serbian delegation spoke with representatives of 53 UN member-states during the three days of the UN General Assembly, and that if two more days were added, that number would go over 100

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said in New York that the number of countries that will either withdraw or freeze their recognition of Kosovo will increase by the end of the year, meaning that the number of those recognizing Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence will fall to under half of UN members.

Dacic told reporters last night that the Serbian delegation spoke with representatives of 53 UN member-states during the three days of the UN General Assembly, and that if two more days were added, that number would go over 100

"The president spoke to some related to strategic matters, the dialogue with Pristina, but there have also been many meetings on the topic of the position, regarding the status of Kosovo and Metohija. I can say openly, as the president announced, that our citizens can be sure that in the coming period there will be more countries that will withdraw or suspend, freeze their decisions on recognition of Kosovo," said Dacic.

He said that if there is a vote on Kosovo's membership in Interpol it will certainly not succeed because the interior and foreign ministries and the president of the Republic have joined forces.

"By the end of the year the number of countries that have recognized Kosovo, which is important for tactical reasons, will fall to under half of UN members. Already, with 15 countries, we have almost eight percent of the total UN membership. This is a great result for a small country like Serbia, because we are not a superpower," Dacic said.

The foreign minister said previously that the Pristina's list of those who have recognized Kosovo's independence has been "completely busted" and added that Serbia's goal is for the number to drop below 97 countries, which is less than half of UN member-states.
