Strong support of Cyprus to Serbia on Kosovo and Metohija issue: Vucic meets with Cypriot minister

President Aleksandar Vucic met today with Cypriot Defense Minister Savvas Angelides, who reiterated the strong support of Cyprus for Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity when it comes to the issue of Kosovo and Metohija.

Vucic underlined the great importance Serbia attaches to its firm friendship with Cyprus, based on understanding, trus,t and solidarity.

He thanked Cyprus for its assistance in protecting Serbia's state and national interests, above all by not recognizing Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence - and expressed Serbia's firm stance on supporting the territorial integrity of Cyprus.

The two interlocutors agreed that good political relations represent the basis for diverse cooperation, including in the area of ​​defense, for which there is mutual interest.

Minister Angelides said his country appreciates the engagement of members of the Serbian Army in the UN Mission in Cyprus.

Vucic asked Minister Angelides to convey his greetings and sincere thanks to President of Cyprus Anastasiades for his strong support for Serbia's European integration, which he openly expresses to his colleagues in the European Union.

He also stressed the expectation that a third joint session of the two countries' governments would be held soon, in order to continue discussions on concrete joint projects and other forms of cooperation.

Angelidis briefed President Vucic on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Vucic said that Serbia expects all activities in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus to be carried out in accordance with international law and with the consent of the Cypriot authorities, in order to avoid a deterioration in the security situation in the region.
