Since Christmas, mass processions have been held in Montenegro every Thursday and Sunday to protest against the Freedom of Religion Law that has been adopted by the Montenegrin Assembly.

Hundreds of thousands of people walk for the salvation of shrines endangered by the disputed law. Such gatherings have been held in Podgorica, Niksic, Pljevlja, Berane, Bijelo Polje, as well as in other towns of Montenegro, but also in Serbia, and around the world.

Columns of tens of thousands have been seen in Montenegrin towns. Carrying lamps or banners, people chanted, "We won't give away holy places."

Last weekend is believed to have seen the most massive protests so far. The procession in Niksic was led by Metropolitan Amfilohije, in Podgorica by Bishop Teodosije, in Pljevlja by Bishop Atanasije, and in Savnik and Zabljak by Bishop Joanikije.

At least 10,000 people gathered at the processions in Pljevlja, who at one point lit their lamps to show how many of them there were.

A large number of people also gathered in Herceg Novi.

At least 10,000 believers joined a procession and Berane, burning torches and unfurling tricolor flags.

It was in Berane that one such flag, several hundred meters long, was shown.

It is believed that there were at least 20,000 people in the streets of Bjelo Polje on Sunday.

A rally in support of the people in Montenegro was held last weekend in Obrenovac, as well as in East Sarajevo. The first procession of the kind was also held in the United States. As many as 2,000 people walked for 6 kilometers in Merrillville, Indiana.
