Ministry of Health makes statement after paramedics in hazmat suits are seen in central Belgrade

The scene of emergency room paramedics in Njegoseva Street transporting a patient to the Infectious Diseases Clinic has alarmed Belgraders, who fear that the deadly coronavirus has arrived in Serbia as well.

As Telegraf.rs has been told by the Ministry of Health, the patient was transported because he came from a high-risk area, which is routine procedure according to the reaction algorithms regarding the presence of coronavirus, according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

"Scenes like this should not be unusual or cause panic. All this is taking place in order to prevent the spread of infection in the territory of Serbia. All the planned measures for prevention and safety of citizens' health have been complied with," we have been told at the Ministry of Health.

As sources told our portal, there is no room for panic, pointing out that so far all those tested for coronavirus in Serbia have been negative.

The patient whom the ambulance picked up in Njegosev Street is now at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Belgrade and is currently undergoing tests.
