Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said that May Day curfew would most likely be as suggested by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic last night.

The president said he would propose to medical experts that the curfew lasts from Thursday at 6 pm until Saturday at 5 am. Originally, the 24-curfew was expected to last the whole weekend.

Kon said it was a compromise but that he didn't feel good about it.

"We have already said that this extended weekend should be withstood. The idea was to completely relax the elderly, to provide them with the ability to take walks in a relaxed manner throughout that period, which was the essence of the proposal if we don't count the frequency of contacts. Since this is a compromise solution, it will be debated today, I guess the professionals will accept it. It will probably be as the proposal reads," he said.

Kon said this coming weekend is significant because May Day gatherings are known to last long.

"The weather favors us, because in wet weather it's much more difficult to transmit the virus. I think there has been excessive debate was about this weekend, because it's the last thing of the sort (complete curfew throughout the weekend) that can happen. I don't feel good about this, honestly, we were supposed to withstand it, but I understand that it's best to implement a compromise. Because with that we get out of a problem, which has been fabricated because people don't realize how serious this disease is and how deadly," said Dr. Kon, and added:

"If it's so important to someone, these last three days (of whole-day curfew), here you are, but I'm not feeling good about it. I have to say that. The activity of the virus will continue to decline. If it starts to rise, we will have to reactivate the measures."

He also said that the state of emergency will be lifted once the virus has been inactive for a period of 7 consecutive days.

Speaking for RTS last night, President Vucic said that if all goes well, he expects the state of emergency to end by the end of next week, when the nightly curfew - from 6 pm until 6 am the next morning, which remains in place, should also be lifted.
