Croatia also bans Serbians from entry: They explained the reasons

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic today announced the opening of the border for tourists from 10 countries, Serbia not being among them.

"We have made a plan according to which we would change the decision on the temporary ban on crossing the border for citizens of a number of countries, for tourism. That would apply to Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Germany," said Plenkovic, the Zagreb-based portal Index reported.

He said that according to the analysis and epidemiological situation, these are the countries "where there is either a similar result or trends are such that we can make such a decision with epidemiological recommendations and a special application, which is already created for the arrival of citizens from these countries for the tourist season," said Plenkovic.

He added that he was sure that as the situation progresses, the list of countries would expand.

Minister Davor Bozinovic explained that citizens from the 10 countries on the list will no longer have to state a reason for entering Croatia, but will instead be able to enter the country as before the coronavirus pandemic.

"When citizens of these countries enter Croatia, their entry will be recorded with the collection of data such as destination, mobile phone number and e-mail address in case there's a need to contact them for epidemiological reasons. In order to reduce waiting time at the border, we recommend to foreign citizens to submit their data in advance through the page entercroatia.mup.hr, which will be available from today," said Bozinovic and added that the site has a form in Croatian and English, and will in a few days be available in a number of languages, along with epidemiological guidelines.

This, Bozinovic said, will speed up the border crossing because the border police will already have the data.

"Passengers who do not submit their data in advance will be able to do all that at the border crossing, but it will take more time, probably in a special lane," Bozinovic revealed.
