A convoy of cars from Serbia found itself this morning at the Promachonas border crossing, hoping that the Greeks would, as previously announced, open the border later in the afternoon, and allow them to enter the country. However, as Telegraf as learned from reliable sources, Greece will not open allow Serbian citizens to enter the country today after all.

According to the Greek website Ethnos, a column of cars about ten kilometers long, with tourists from Germany, but also those from the Balkan countries, formed at the Promahon border crossing today. According to the report, all those coming from Serbia have been turned back because our country is no longer on the list of those whose citizens can enter Greece.

At the moment, there is no precise information about the specific cause of the ban on Serbian tourists, but it is assumed that the government decided to take this step due to the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in Serbia. On the other hand, Greek Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself, along with expert epidemiological staff, repeatedly emphasized that due to the change in the epidemiological situation, it is possible that the decisions regarding admission of passengers from EU and non-EU countries could change.

On May 20, Greece announced that it would open its borders for Serbians. According to the announcements by Minister of Tourism Haris Theoharis, the list of 29 countries was formed on the basis of epidemiological profiles of the countries in the region, and in accordance with statements coming from the EU Aviation Safety Agency.
