The more people get sick, the more likely it is that some child will develop a more severe clinical picture

The clinical picture developed by children in this coronavirus surge is more serious than in the previous period and more similar to the clinical picture of adults.

However, immunologist Doctor Srdja Jankovic points out that the vast majority of children will not have major problems, or those will be minimal.

"That is the case with the vast majority of children, as we have noticed in the course of the epidemic so far. However, it makes sense to protect everyone from infection, even children, precisely because of the probability, which is individually small, that a more difficult clinical picture will develop," he told TV Pink.

Low likelihood, however, is no guarantee that children cannot develop a more severe clinical picture.

"Of course, when we have an epidemic that is flaring up and when a large number of people, including children, are infected, we can still see, as is the case now, children who have significant symptoms and difficulties," he concluded.
