Worst day for Serbia since start of epidemic: Almost 5,000 new cases in one day, 24 more deaths

This is the latest cross-section of the coronavirus epidemic situation

Over the last 24 hours coronavirus was confirmed in another 4,994 people, and at the same time, 24 more patients died as a result of the Covid disease.

17,654 people were tested, 28.29 percent of whom were positive.

There are 179 patients on ventilators.

The total death toll from coronavirus in Serbia is now 1,054.

Belgrade had the highest number of new cases in one day yet with as many as 2,084 infected people (42%). Novi Sad was behind with 487, Pancevo had 178, Nis 173, Kraljevo 85, Valjevo 81, Cacak 73, Zrenjanin 69, Aleksinac 64, Subotica 63, while other towns had less than 60.

So far 1,536,969 people have been tested, 92,375 of them positive for coronavirus.

After a meeting with directors of Covid hospitals, it was announced today that Belgrade broke the record for the number of examinations as 5,600 people were examined in the previous 24 hours alone.

It was added that hospital capacities are running out.

"The numbers will grow in the coming days, we hope that the measures will produce a result in 10 days," said Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar.
