President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, Minister of Finance of Serbia Sinisa Mali, and French Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Promotion Frank Riester today addressed the media.

"Today we signed a very important agreement with the Government of the France, on cooperation in the implementation of priority infrastructure projects. I specifically mean the project of building a subway (metro) in Belgrade, and the project of improving and increasing the efficiency of the electricity distribution network in our country," said Mali.

The value of the agreement is 581 million euros.

President Vucic said that, even at the time of the strongest wave of coronavirus, Riester came to our country, which speaks to how firm relations between France and Serbia are.

"We will modernize our electricity network, thanks to the commitment of France, Macron and Riester, but also to our own efforts. Before the end of next year, we will start serious construction works," saoid Vucic.

"We managed to start works on the airport," stated Vucic, and added that the Belgrade airport will have modern equipment, modeled on the example of airports elsewhere in Europe.

"Building a metro solves not only traffic problems in the capital, but is also a question of prestige and strength of a city, a state," the president of Serbia pointed out.

"It is a great honor for me to be at the signing of this agreement today. I believe in good relations between Serbia and France, and the feasibility study for the metro in Belgrade will be ready next year," said Riester.

As he further stated, a smart energy network is being introduced which will significantly help EPS (the distribution company) reduce losses.
