The Government of Serbia has made a decision to declare a natural disaster in 20 municipalities in the territory of the Republic, where, due to heavy rains and precipitation, numerous facilities and infrastructure have been damaged.

The state of natural disaster was declared in Nis, Leskovac, Pirot, Vranje, Bujanovac, Zitoradja, Doljevac, Dimitrovgrad, Vlasotince, Gadzin Han, Vladicin Han, Medvedja, Kursumlija, Bela Palanka, Babusnica, Bojnik, Prijepolje, Tutin, and Prokuplje, the government announced.

This decision will launch a mechanism of the Public Investment Management Office to provide assistance for repairing damaged family homes owned by citizens, as well public facilities and infrastructure.

The government also provided 600 million dinars for the reconstruction of communal infrastructure and watercourses damaged in the floods in June of last year, which will be distributed through local self-government units.

It is stressed that it is necessary to send funds for repaire works as soon as possible, considering that the flood wave had caused serious damage to water supply facilities and the sewerage network.

Bridges have also been damaged and destroyed, while landslides activated on roads, causing traffic disruptions.
