This time, Djukanovic signs new laws adopted by Assembly, including that on freedom of religion

President of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic announced on Twitter that he has signed the decrees on the promulgation of several laws after the Assembly voted to pass them again on January 20.

"I signed the decrees on the promulgation of the laws afters the Assembly passed them again on January 20, 2021," President Milo Djukanovic wrote on Twitter.

"The qualms that I had and because of which I returned them to the Assembly for a new vote remain," stated Djukanovic.

Djukanovic stressed that he hopes that, after the signing of the laws and their publishing in the Official Gazette, which makes them a part of the legal system of Montenegro, conditions will have been created for initiating a procedure by any entity in society to assess their constitutionality, RTCG reports.

"I believe that the Constitutional Court, as the only competent instance, will provide an answer to this question in an independent and professional way," Djukanovic pointed out.

Last week, the Assembly of Montenegro again adopted amendments to the Law on Freedom of Religion, thanks to the votes of 41 deputies from ruling parties who were present in the hall.

Amendments to the Law on Credit Institutions, the Law on Rehabilitation of Credit Institutions and the Law on Fiscalization in Trade in Products and Services were also adopted once again, after Djukanovic refused to sign them the first time, sending them back to the Assembly.
