When asked if more cases of the new British strain of coronavirus have been detected in Serbia, epidemiologist Darija Kisic Tepavcevic told today's news conference after the session of the Crisis HQ that research is being carried out since May last year.

"The study of molecular characterization of the virus has been done since May in our country. Since then, all changes have been monitored on random samples in order to examine the characteristics of this virus in our country. As you have been informed, it was detected for the first time in the territory of our country last Saturday," said Dr. Kisic.

"Nothing unusual, it was to be expect. The important thing is that the circle has been closed, but that is something that will surely await us in the upcoming period of time," she added.

She added that vaccines also affect that strain of the virus.

"Analyses have shown that the changes do not affect the composition of vaccines and their effectiveness," she said.

She also pointed out during today's press conference that a little over 415,000 people have been vaccinated in Serbia, three of whom reported severe side effects. However, she stressed that no one's life was in danger.
