Defense Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said today after the session of the Council for National Security that special attention was paid to the current situation in Kosovo and Metohija, which he assessed as increasingly complex.

"We spoke about several important topics, and the first was the current increasingly complex situation in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija. We spoke about a situation that is complex for us. It is complex in the political-security sense. We considered what our state bodies are doing to preserve security and stability in the territory of the southern Serbian province," he said.

He stressed that the intention was above all to protect safety of the Serb population.

Stefanovic stressed that the situation in Kosovo and Metohija is becoming more and more complex, and that there are new situations such as some congratulatory messages on Statehood Day, which are rejoiced by a large number of politicians in the southern Serbian province, but not in central Serbia.

In cooperation with KFOR, he said, the intention is to protect the stability and security of the Serb population that is endangered in Kosovo and Metohija, to show that Serbia is a serious partner and that it will not allow any pogrom, expulsion or crimes against the Serb population.
