Selakovic: EP report is inadmissible call to recognize Kosovo's unilaterally declared independence

"I remind you that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the mediation of the EU, is taking place respecting the principle of status neutrality and that this is a precondition for reaching any lasting and sustainable solutions," says Selakovic

A proposed report of the European Parliament (EP), which has been adopted by its Foreign Policy Committee, in an inadmissible and inappropriate way calls those EU countries that have not recognized the unilaterally declared independence of our southern province to change their mind, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic has said.

In a statement sent to the media, Nikola Selakovic said that the European Union, although most of its members recognize self-proclaimed Kosovo, as an umbrella political entity has been trying to maintain its position of status neutrality for years, while he sees European Parliament rapporteur Viola von Cramon's appeal to recognize self-proclaimed Kosovo sent to the group of five EU countries as a flagrant deviation from Brussels' previous political practice.

"I remind you that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the mediation of the EU, is taking place respecting the principle of status neutrality and that this is a precondition for reaching any lasting and sustainable solutions," stated Selakovic.

He believes that this is, to put it mildly, undiplomatic, while it is not useful for the negotiation process between Belgrade and Pristina that the EP Foreign Policy Committee allowed "Ms. Viola von Cramon's personal lobbying initiative to turn into something that should be an official document of an EU institution."

He expects the EU to give a chance to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina by, as he says, taking a position of status neutrality, and for the EU will not be a part of the problem, but of the solution when it comes to stabilizing the situation in the Western Balkans.
