At the height of attacks on Orthodox shrines and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, when it is expected that competent institutions would react and stop these acts of vandalism, we are witnessing a new wave of dangerous incidents, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija has stated.

The latest attack took place near the Serbian Orthodox monastery of Draganac, in the municipality of Novo Brdo, where unknown perpetrators damaged a signpost indicating the way to this shrine. The board with the inscription of the 14th century Draganac monastery has been the target of vandals several times so far, but no one has been held responsible for these acts.

At a time when representatives of provisional institutions in Pristina are supposedly carrying out activities aimed at preserving the Serb heritage and culture, while writing letters to international institutions asking them to remove Serbian Orthodox Church monasterie in Kosovo and Metohija from the list of endangered cultural monuments, we are documenting new attacks, a statement said.

The Office recalled that since the beginning of this year, a total of 13 churches and monasteries have been the target of attacks by Albanian extremists.

The Office added that parallel with this case, posters appeared in Djakovica with photographs of Serbs who are getting target signs drawn on their foreheads as they are accused of alleged war crimes without any evidence, thus intimidating potential returnees and internally displaced people who wish to go back to their centuries-old homes.

"It is hypocritical of Albanian authorities in Kosovo and Metohija to try to present their policy as a policy of peace, solidarity, religious and national tolerance in the eyes of the world, while real life on the ground denies that every day. The facts show that the Serb people and Orthodox churches in Kosovo and Metohija are exposed to constant violence, injustice and pressure," the Office said.
