The Vojvodina Provincial Secretary of Health Dr. Zoran Gojkovic told TV Pink today that it is currently more important to monitor the number of hospitalized people with Covid, i.e., how burdened the healthcare system is, than how many people are infected.

"We have a different clinical picture compared to last year, now, instead of older people, younger ones are in hospitals, because older people have been vaccinated," said Gojkovic.

Gojkovic reiterated that "everyone will get infected" with coronavirus during the coming period, but not everyone will get sick, that is, they will not develop a more severe form of the disease.

He appealed on citizens of Serbia to get vaccinated, because the vaccine prevents severe forms of the disease.

According to him, the vaccinated will not "end up on a ventilator" because their body already produces antibodies.

All global studies and experiences of our doctors show that more than 90 percent of those hospitalized are unvaccinated, Gojkovic stressed. He added that 99 percent of those who are dying had not been vaccinated.

"Then should we really talk about whether or not to get vaccinated?," Gojkovic asked.

The unvaccinated, he adds, will have a severe clinical picture in case they become infected with Covid-19.

"Coronavirus is extremely dangerous because you do not necessarily develop a severe clinical picture in the first few days. For the first five or six days, you have mild symptoms, then the fever starts, then it's time for the hospital, and as soon as they come to the hospital, they go to the intensive care unit. I'm talking about the unvaccinated. On the other hand, vaccinated people get over it much easier," says Dr. Gojkovic.

He also said that the Clinical Center of Vojvodina is now "unburdened" thanks to the newly opened Covid Hospital in Novi Sad.

"There are now 122 patients in the Covid hospital, and in the coming days, Covid patients from other hospitals in Vojvodina will also be transferred there," said Gojkovic.
