A day after the horrific discovery of three lifeless bodies in Zagreb's Mlinovi neighborhood, the urban villa in which, as is suspected, Harald Kopitz killed his three children, was guarded by the police.

Along the wall of the entrance for vehicles, along the fenced yard, someone lit lanterns. Since they are visible to passers-by from the street, pedestrians stop, pray and then look with sadness towards the second floor of the villa where the children's lives ended tragically, writes Jutarnji List.

"The police were there all night. They kept taking some things out. I guess it's all evidence. Honestly, we still can't believe that those children are gone and that we will never hear their voices and laughter from the terrace again. If there was paternal love in that man, he would not have been able to commit such a crime," said one of the neighbors.

The acquaintance of the murder suspect, on the other hand, says that "the only sincere message Kopitz wrote was his last. It horrified everyone."

"All the posts and photos he published until Friday night were not of a sincere nature. He cared about a positive image, especially to be seen as being a loving and good father. He would set up the children so that the joint photos would be beautiful and sent them to us, and the children really loved him because he obviously skillfully deceived them," this woman told Jutarnji.

Journalists did not manage to reach the Kopitz family in Vienna. According to what Jutarnji has learned, Harald grew up in Vienna's Ottakring district. Neighbors say that he grew up in an average family that they did not stand out in any way. Journalists did not manage to reach the family members themselves.

11 minutes after midnight on Saturday, Kopitz posted an announcement of his crime on Facebook, alluding to suicide because he lost his girlfriend and money, saying that even his Masonic brothers did not help him, even though he turned to them for help. Because of that, about 50 minutes later, several of his friends and the Austrian embassy - which was still available to Kopitz because he was an Austrian citizen - got alerted.

Calls to the police soon followed, and the officers went to Mlinovi, not even imagining what horrible scenes and an indescribable amount of sadness awaited them. Kopitz's life was saved at the last minute after he swallowed a quantity of pills.

The Austrian media continued to follow the case on Sunday, but mostly through the prism of the alleged involvement of the suspect in freemasonry. As the portal heute.at reports, the Grand Lodge of Austrian Freemasons reacted yesterday by claiming that Kopitz was never their member.
