Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Tuesday that the state is ready to introduce Covid passes, but that they are just a way to above all get young people vaccinated, and that passes are not a "magic bullet" for solving the situation with the Covid pandemic.

"We've got everything ready for Covid passes. I'll talk more, to see if we we go for that. But, I hear on different media outlets and from various experts different information and views on things," Brnabic told reporters in Vinca, adding that 16 days ago she announced the introduction of Covid passes, but that such a decision has not been made yet.

The prime minister stressed that Covid passes are not a "silver or magic bullet" for resolving the situation, but a way to motivate young people to get vaccinated, so that they can go to clubs, cafes and restaurants.

"The only answer to everything is vaccination. We are talking again about measures, passes, everything that is not crucial in solving the pandemic. Vaccines are key, the first and the third dose," said Brnabic.

The prime minister also said that 53.4 percent of the adult population in Serbia has been vaccinated, but that in the 18 to 30 age group 21.4 percent have been vaccinated which, she says, is devastating, because it is a matter of civil solidarity and protection of those who for various reasons cannot be protected.

She added that, unfortunately, we are witnessing young people dying, because they have not been vaccinated.

"Two days ago, a 24-year-old young man passed away, who had no other diseases, he was not vaccinated. And a woman who was 31 years old, a mother of two children, without associated diseases and without a vaccine. These are all lives that could have been saved," said Brnabic.

She reiterated that the state cannot introduce mandatory vaccination, instead we must rely on our own awareness that it is important to protect ourselves. She added that the state has done its part, Serbia was among the first to procure vaccines from four different manufacturers, and soon the fifth, Moderna, will arrive, but also repeated that it is also up to individual responsibility.

"It isn't stuck, we are thinking about it (Covid passes)," said Brnabic, who visited a new sanitary landfill, power plant and recycling plant for construction waste at the Vinca landfill.
