In southwestern Serbia, surrounded by the mountains Zlatar, Murtenica, Cemernica, Jadovnik and Javor, is the special nature reserve Uvac.

It has been declared a natural asset of exceptional importance and is home to about 130 species of birds, the most important being the griffon vulture, one of the two remaining species of vultures that nest in our country.

What this nature reserve is known for not only in our country but also abroad is the canyon valley of the River Uvac, more precisely its meanders.

The waters of Uvac cut the river's bed into limestone rocks, creating canyon valleys with tall steep cliffs.

The depth of the canyon valleys ranges between 200 and 350 meters and in many parts looks like a labyrinth.

The meanders start a few kilometers from Lake Uvac and the most attractive ones are located upstream from the mouth of the River Veljusnica, the left tributary of Uvac, in the area called Lopiza.
