Gostusa is the pearl of Stara Mountain: Get to know the most unusual village in Serbia

25 kilometers from Pirot, at the foot of the Stara Mountain, you can find Gostusa, the most unusual village in Serbia.

The houses in this village are built out of mud, stone and other natural materials that locals were able to find nearby.

Although they look dilapidated, they form an ambient whole and represent protected heritage of Serbia.

There is no reliable data about the origin of the village, but it is believed this is one of the three oldest settlements in the vicinity of the town of Pirot. Historical records say that the village had a school in 1840.

1,500 people used to live in Gostusa, while today it has less than 100 inhabitants.

Several households are engaged in rural tourism, with the visitors being mostly foreigners who want to get to know the soul of Gostusa and enjoy traditional dishes of this region.
